Key nods, seeming to take what Anglerond says to heart. She smiles as he finishes speaking obviously ready to give him a bad time. “Huh, well I can’t say as I’ve been to any of those establishments myself. But whatever floats your boat I suppose. Your so old that they probably aren’t there anymore anyway.” She elbows him.
“Im more than happy to give you the tour.”
Anglerond shocked face is only marred by the smile lines behind his eyes and the humor in his gaze. “I am shocked m’lady, perhaps you would like to wheel me down to the pensioners ward tonight…Besides the places I am sure are there, but maybe it’s their granddaughters now..”
Anglerond smile fades only slightly as he looks at Te’Teh’s very young visage. His eyes turn back to Keyleth. “You will understand things about the younger races in a few hundred years and aging. Such a quick life, so bright but short. Makes true friendships hard after your first or second set of young friends.”
Her face gets a bit sad. “I suppose your right. But in the mean time, they are bright starts in a beautiful night sky. And I do so love the night.”
She smiles. “Tell me where else you’ve visited. I know you’ve been all over the forest, and Kokand.”
His smile returns fully “I of course spent a lot of time in the forest. I have served two campaigns in the reunification war in the desert trying to bring the desert elves back under our flag. I have gone three times east to the jade empire as a diplomatic escort and fought multiple campaigns against the orcs.
He looks up towards the sleeping rooms on the second floor. “I mostly though spent numerous campaigns against the drow in the underdark or more preferably up under the sun. The Underdark is truly the most dangerous place I have been.
Key’s eyes light up at the mention of the desert elves. “You make me feel as though Ive lived a sheltered life.” She shrugs.
“I guess I have in a lot of ways. Can you tell me morw about the desert elves? We met with a tribe while we were there. They gifted me with a horse.”
His eyes grow distance as he remembers.“I don’t have a lot of positive experiences there. It was in the time of your adopted great-grandfather and I was a very young soldier. He was attempting to align and bring back the power of the Elenren line with a new Elven Empire. The Anfauglir Roch Tura are a proud race. Built in tribal units they have performed warfare against themselves and their neighbors since the breaking. I found that they have some very beautiful people who are kind to strangers.”
He takes a large gulp of his tankard. “They fought incredibly bravely, I cannot say anything negative about their courage, or the love for their own people. However, we were sent as butchers. In the beginning of the campaign we won handily, but treated the locals cruelly. We eventually pushed too hard and showed too little mercy that even the children fought us. Most of the “Army of the Return” were destroyed before we got back to the coast. The majority of the people I grew up with and went on campaign did not go home physically, and out of the survivors only a fraction returned mentally”.
Keys eyes are sad for a moment. She places a hand over his and speaks softly at first. “Im so sorry. I can’t imagine what that must have been like for those of you that were lucky enough to come home.” She removes her hand and gains an air that might be queenly some day.
“I want to unite our people, my people. I’d like the Angluifur Roch Tura to choose to be a part of that. Do you think it’s possible to unite the elves without bloodshed?”
Her eyes are serious.
Anglerond playfully smacks beside Key on the table, it was a last minute adjustment to what was obviously a playful tap on her. “Do not be sad. It was a long time ago, and the Horse Lords were tough, but the drow wars were much more brutal. That would have so many blood curdling stories for you. You will find a lot of hate from some of our people for your friend. What happened to her in Arborlon was playing.”
He looks at her a bit more seriously. “That is a loaded question. Do you mean all the elves or just our people. If you include desert elves… maybe but you would have to do a lot of diplomacy and probably fighting their enemies to get them to join. If you want drow, that will require a war. A lot of blood to reunite all of our people. As for our smaller groups of people that all depends as well.”
He thinks a little more, “Although maybe you wouldn’t have to kill other elves. If we truly are in the end times and we are invaded again, maybe we can align with the other tribes. Once the war is over and we are victorious we take the opportunity to topple the rulers of other Seldarine. That might work with the least blood shed on our own people. Either way though our people will bleed torrents to have it happen.”
Key heaves out a heavy sigh. The weight of worlds on her shoulders. “What good is this blood if it can’t unite our people?” She shakes her head and makes a slashing gesture with her hand.
“No, don’t answer that. It was a tantrum and not worth a dignified response. I just have all these hopes and dreams of a united elven kingdom, living in peace. I also know that peace is purchased with blood.”
She starts to drum her fingers on the table. “As far as this being end times, I think I can speak for the whole group when I say thats not going to happen.”
Anglerond smirks at Key “I have no doubt you and your band of ragamuffins will be victorious. Hopefully I will be here to help.”
Key looks like she’s been slapped. “What do you mean ‘hopefully’! I hate to tell you this but your in it for life sir. If I have to drag your ass around I swear to you that you’ll see the end of all this.”
She smiles broadly and slaps playfully at Anglerond’s shoulder.
Anglerond shrugs playfully with the same jovial smirk. “It all depends on what you need.”
“Well lets start with your sword arm while you can still use it.” She gives him a wicked wink.
“Even after that Im sure I can find some sort of work for the rest of you.”
Anglerond smile remains but he has a slightly more serious look. “You will always have my sword arm.”
He smirks even more. “How do you know there is anything but a sword arm left? Maybe the rest of me was badly disfigured in a fire? “
Key’s face goes a bit red and she sputters. “Uhm, I asure you that it would make no difference to me” she smiles.
Inspiration lights up her face and she sribbles something on her plans. “Subject change incoming. I was going to put your room to the left of mine and Rabbit to the right. Does that work for you?”
Anglerond thinks about it for a moment. “Of course, I am happy to be anywhere, although you might consider the roles. Some rulers believe the right hand is the sword and the left hand the shield. There is another thought though. The right hand is what is used in public, it is who is there for order. The left hand is what you use in the shadows and tends to do the more… less acceptable practices.”
He shrugs after a moment “I am good with either, I just wasn’t sure if there was meaning to your proposal.”
Key thinks for a moment. “There wasn’t, but I suppose I need to start thinking every little thing through because someone somewhere will be and may see something in an action that was never intended.”
She picks up the quil and crosses some things out and rewrites them in different spots.
“So you’ll be on the right and Rabbit will be on the left then. Hey, do you know anything about court politics and etiquette? If you do, I would love to have a second teacher. One thats a bit more attractive than Nestrim.”
Anglerond waves his hands in a panicked fashion “Oh gods no Nest is far better. I barely know enough to be allowed into the palace.”
He winks at Key “I know you lie. He is far more attractive than I am..”
Key draws her eyebrows together in a puzzled, but amuzed expression. “Nest? No, I am in no way attracted to him. We got off on the wrong foot and we’re only now on friendly terms. Yes, to me you are more attractive. Now quit fishing for complements.” She winks and elbows him a bit harder than nessesary but not hard enough to cause damage.
“Now about the other. Would you say you need lessons as well? You’ll be seen with me in court quite a bit so…”
Anglerond runs the spot he was elbowed in and giving her a quick friendly glare.“Of course I will do as you ask, but I can stand near you and look menacing all on my own.”
Smirking as if he got away with something “It’s not like I need to dance or talk being your guard.
Te’Teh looks down when Anglerond speaks in an uncomfortable manner, as if he is an idiot. She coughs loudly to hide the single word. “Clueless.”
Key chuckles at Te’Teh. She shakes her head as she speaks. “You may be called upon to talk or dance. Your duties will include more than just being a body guard. Rabbit will need to brush up on her court etiquette as well. I want everyone to know that you all are just as capable in a thrown room as you are on a battlefield. We may as well get used to putting on a face now. That way when anyone gets around to noticing us we’ll all be well practiced.”
She elbows Te’Teh. “That means you too. Im sure that at some point you’ll be out in public with us.”
Te’Teh Looks up shocked at the words from Key. “I think that is a very bad idea!”
Anglerond watched Key for a moment and gives a small size.“I would be proud to dance with you.”
Keys eyebrow climbs up into her hairline. She looks to Anglerond and smiles, then back to Te’ Teh. “Please explain. You are a part of this group. If your with us outside of court but not in it people will still associate you with is.”
Te’Teh shrugs noncommitally and smiles.” “Unless Luke needs me to do something for him.”
Key huffs out a breath. “Im not asking you to go on bended knee and swear undying fielty to me. Im simply saying that at some point, as a group, we will be at a court function together. Im sorry if I gave you a different impression.”
Te’Teh smiles immediately at Keyleth. “I am busting your tits, elf girl. I like you a lot, you are like family to me. I would probably even bend the knee, but I am going to bitch the whole time. You are just going to have to accept that!.”
Te’Teh sits forward, giving her a large smile, and a eyefull of her cleavage.
Anglerond starts for a moment when Te’Teh leans forward, full asset group straining out of her top. He immediately takes a quick look away and seems to be finding something interesting on a wall.
Key looks between Te’Teh and Anglerond and laughts out loud for a long time, tears streaming down her cheeks. “Looks as though Im not the only one who’s being given a hard time.” She wipes the tears from her cheeks and crosses her arms.
“I just was caught off guard is all. I knew she had large breasts, but that was unexpected.”, the reddening on his face just touching his cheeks before starting to fade.
“I am just going to grow back my beard, then I don’t have to worry about this.” he says as he touches his hot face. He then turns towards a serving girl and loudly yells for another drink.
Te’Teh just watches with humor the two in front of her. Slowly her pushed out chest returns to normal.
“He might be a keeper, it depends on if he can bathe himself… although a beard would be a good start. I notice elves have beards rarely, is it because it takes so long to grow out?”
Key looks to Anglerond squinting as if trying to see something that isn’t there. After a moment she relaxes her features and adopts a neutral expression. She looks as though she might say something, but thinks better of it. Instead she turns to Te’Teh and answers her question.
“Im not exactly sure why it doesn’t happen more often. I know in general, as a people we tend to be more on the smooth side. Everything tends to grow slower when you live as long as we do.” She winks and smiles.
Te’Teh smiles at Key.“So Keyleth, are you personally a pro-beard or anti-beard in your outlook? Inquiring minds need to know this.”
Anglerond is now pretending he isn’t involved in the conversation as his drink arrives.
Key gives Te’Teh a long level look. “Im of the mind that Im not going to stop anyone from doing what it is that makes them happy. Normally I wouldn’t care one way or the other, but right now facial hair reminds me of people I’d rather not think about.”
Te’Teh nods, with no look of joking, she turns to Anglerond directly and says in the same tone an older sister would. There is no broking of argument from her. “Anglerond, go shave that fuzz off your face.”
Anglerond looks at the two and touches his face, running his fingers along the faint stubble. He then nods at Te’Teh and gives Key a small nod of respect.“I will go shave now. I could probably use a bath.” He says with a little more humor as he attempts to sniff his shoulder.
“I will meet you in a few hours.”, as he begins to stand up.
Key turns slightly and reaches up to put a hand on Anglerond’s arm. “Only shave if that’s what you want to do. Please don’t do it only because it makes me more comfortable. A little discomfort helps us grow. Or so my Master used to say.” She smiles up to him and removes her hand.
She then turns to the younger women next to her. “Thank you sister, I appreciate the sentiment.” She picks up her quill and begins to write on the page in front of her.
Anglerond reaches over and touches Keyleth’s shoulder lightly. “I desire to not make you uncomfortable, there is no reason for senselessly making you uncomfortable. Besides maybe women will find me more attractive if I shave off the dirt.” He smiles and winks at Key
Te’Teh watches the two of them in a semi-interested manner. As if what they say to each other didn’t mean a thing to her.
Key looks up from the parchment when she feels the touch on her shoulder. She smiles warmly. “Thank you, I appreciate the thought. For the record, your just as attractive with the dirt. Ask any of the women in here and they’ll tell you so.”
She pats the hand on her shoulder.
Anglerond smiles and for a moment at Key, an unasked question or comment on his lips when he turns and walks out of the tavern.
She watches him leave, admiring the view. She then throws an elbow at Te’Teh playfully. “Way to chase him out of the room.”
Te’Teh gives Key a knowing wink, and a warm smile. “You and I both know that you would prefer your first kiss to not involve stubble or reminders.”
Key nods in acceptance. “Your right, thank you for looking out for me.” She sets her quill down, thinking.
“Speaking of, I wonder how Rabbit and Luke are doing.”
Te’Teh cocks her head as she thinks,“I saw Rabbit walking down towards Luke’s hovel. She had a wine bottle and a handful of flowers I think she just pulled from someone’s yard. With them being quiet this long it went either very very well, or very very poorly.”
Key’s expression is worried for a moment. “I hoping for well. Im not sure how Rabbit would react to poorly.”
Te’Teh’s face get serious “I don’t think she would do anything but tell Luke she understands… but I don’t think she would be ok. I think she would lock it up until it blew and I am not sure what’s direction it would be. We should go.
Te’Teh signals that she is done with the table.
Key starts to roll up her papers and gather her thing. “Where are we going?”
Once she has everything in her arms she starts toward the door.
Te’Teh’s smiles again “He lived in a hovel in the warrens. I will take you. He always has food available and it is tasty. Hmmm I am hungry anyways.
Te’Teh gets her stuff and waits for Key.
Key walks out the door assuming Te’Teh is behind her.
