Key wanders down from her tiny room, several large rolls of parchment under one arm and a quill tucked behind one ear. She walks up to the bar with purpose and orders a drink. When she receives it she takes it with her to one of the larger tables and begins to unroll the parchment. She uses the drink to hold down one side and her hand for the other. She stays standing to get a better view of what she is looking at. She pulls out a bottle of ink and uses it to wate another corner. She pulls out the quill, dips it and begins to make notes.
Te’teh wanders down into the main drinking room, tugging her shirt all the way down. She immediately beelines for Keyleth, a large smile on her face.
“If you are a queen, aren’t you supposed to have someone who does that for you?”
Key looks up from her parchment. Recognizing Teh’Te she smiles and puts her quill down. “Good Morning! I really wouldn’t know. Besides, I would like to have some say as far as what our house looks like wouldn’t you? Come look, I have a few options. Right now I really think I just want to take the best of all of them and mash them together. None of these are quite perfect.”
Te’teh walks over to the plans and looks at them.
“Will there be a place I can crash? I can sleep in a hay loft. Oh and you might want a double size room for rabbit and Luke. I saw Rabbit walk past the inn towards the warrens with a bottle of wine and flowers.”
Te’teh shifts forward conspiratorially.. “It has to be him, she doesn’t give anyone else those intense eyes, so I assume it was Luke. Oh I guess if you don’t mind I could stay with Jack.”
Key picks up her quill again and makes some notes. “Of course you get your own room.” She elbows Te’Teh.
“You are family. Where do you want your room to be?”
Te’teh nudges her friend in the ribs. “By the kitchen?”
Key lets out a belly laugh. “Okay, that can be done. I just figured you’d want a room nearer to Jack.”
She raises an eyebrow expecting her to change her mind.
Te’teh thinks about it for a few minutes “nah, I will just make him scoot over if I want to sleep by him, otherwise by the food! Orgasm is temporary, full belly is all night.
She winks at Key
Key rolls her eyes playfully at Te’Teh. “Alright, its good to have priorities. I’ll put you above the kitchen so you know when breakfast gets started in the morning.” She goes quiet for a moment. She makes a few more notes.
“I think I’ll offer Jack a room at the back of the house so he has a view of the water. Where do you think Luke and Rabbit would want to be?”
Te’teh sucks on her lower lip for a moment thinking
“He is difficult to get interested in a room outside the warrens. I would put it to where he can see the warrens. I suspect you need to put a room for Rabbit beside yours with attaching doorway. I mean if he is over she will probably be in his room… if they work their shit out. Otherwise she is going to want to sleep as close to you as possible… so she can be all handmaidenly to you.
Key sighs. “Im still not sure how I feel about the handmaiden thing. Im super uncomfortable with it. I think she and I need to talk a bit more about it.”
She shakes her head an puts down the quill again. “What are your plans for the day?
Te’teh shrugs,“Drinking, sex, maybe learning how to design a building… I am flexible.”
She then looks up at Key, “I would be careful about the handmaiden thing. Drow are weird, and I get the impression it isn’t a good idea to back out of something you accepted. Don’t get me wrong, I don’t think she would ever hurt you, but it might hurt her. All she wants to do is protect you and make you queen… that is all…”
Te’Teh laughs nervously a little.
There is a gruff older elven voice, laughing loudly as he walks down the steps. Taking them two at a time, belying is age Anglerond seems to beam with an early morning humor. He arrives at the bottom of the stairs, turning from whoever he was bellowing at towards where Keyleth and Te’Teh were standing. He stops for a moment, and booms out even louder in a contagious smile,
“GOOD MORNING YOUNG LADIES!!!”
Key chuckles at the young tiefling. “Designing buildings aye.” She pauses her expression getting more serious.
“I don’t intend to back out of anything. I just want her to know that this time around things won’t be how they were with her mother. I know she just wants to protect me and Im okay with that. It’s all the stuff that hurts her that I want to protect her from.”
She looks up at the sound of shouted words in her direction. An eyebrow lifts and a tiny smile lifts one corner of her mouth.
“Good Morning Anglerond. Must we shout?”
Te’teh looks up at the older elven male, then back to Keyleth and a small smile plays at her lips, after a moment she stuffs away whatever thought and looks at Key.
“I think I should help you with some of the design, like where you want to put secret corridors and connecting hallways that we can sneak around in.”
His smile lights up even more at Keyleth’s addressing of him. His jovialness can’t seem to be suppressed by grumpy tavern goers. He walks over and as he gets close the light of table highlights a faint glittering of silver and black as the stubble on his face reflects the light and becomes evident this close up. The ladies can tell he probably hadn’t seen a razor since he left Arborlon months ago. “It is good to announce loudly your presence, so death knows she can go away, she has no victim waiting here for her today.”
He walks around the table watching the parchment and design drawn on it. “I see someone is busy. Are your plans starting over with the change in household?
Key swivels her attention back to Te’Teh. “That is a fantastic idea. Why did I not think about that before? Maybe we should take a field trip to the site. Ive never actually been there and it would be nice to have a better idea of how much space we are working with.”
She looks down at the plans on the table critically then back up to Anglerond.
“These are plans for the house we’re building here in Kokand.” She squints at him her playful smile returning.
“I suppose… as head of my personal guard you should have some input as far as the safety of the layout.” She lifts a challenging eyebrow at him, her smile broadening.
He shrugs and smiles again. Then he looks cautious as he asks “Can I give one piece of advice? I got to watch King Elenren design several buildings. He usually started with a list of what he needed before visiting the site. He said he tended to forget what he needed when out on site. Just don’t tell him I told you that.”
Anglerond gives her a reassuring smile.
Key nods her head. “That is a good idea.” She pulls another piece of parchment out from under the others and starts a list on the blank sheet.
“Is there anything you think I should add to the list?”
He smiles at her response and looks at the list. “Before we do anything you need to decide what this home is specifically for and what you want it to do. Is it a trade post, is it a place we wan’t to be able to defend with, or present ourselves as open and accepting. How many people are going to live here. Once I know those things I can give you some suggestions.”
Anglerond leans in closer to Key and Te’Teh. “By the way, I think you are going to do great.”
Te’Teh’s smile hasn’t left her face, she orders a drink and turns back to the two. “Have we confirmed how much space below your house that Rabbit secured for you? I really think we need to be able to move you unseen in and out of the house, unless you want to deal with hanger ons following you everywhere.”
The smile never leaves her face, but uncertainty flashes in her eyes for a moment. It disappears as quickly as it came.
“Its on a bluff near a lighthouse. The location itself is quite defensible. I would like it to be as open and inviting a place as we can make it without compromising safety. There will be the 5 of us plus I assume that if Reggie is still with us he will live there as well. There will need to be a steward and a staff as well.”
She turns to Te’ Teh.
Rabbit hasn’t said how much she was able to secure. We should know that to before we visit I suppose.”
He smiles at her response and looks at the list. “Multiply that number by at least 5. If you are known to own it you will want a guard, and over time I suspect a sizable guard. Not for you personally, but to defend what you own. I get the impression the best we are going to get as guardian of you would be a handmaiden and myself unless you have me doing other things. I don’t see you tramping around with a household, so low numbers is better to travel with.”
Key listens intently while Anglerond speaks. Her expression goes unreadable for a moment when he says ‘other things’. She crosses her arms over her chest.
“Okay, noted. We’ll need a barracks. And a stable.” She pauses for a moment, fixing him with a stare.
“I am capable in a fight myself. I know you have yet to see it, but in a lot of ways Im better than Arthurian ever was.”
Anglerond looks worried he might have offended Key. “Oh, that isn’t what I meant to imply. Your sister talks an awful lot about you to me and your brother, more to me I think. It has been made very clear you are equal or better then Artherien is, or was. Something is different now so I can’t make that determination. What I worry about your defense is either a silent blade you don’t see, many nobles who are masters of magic or swords have ended this way, especially drow or those that work with drow, and many others are overwhelmed by superior numbers. Even with you, me and a guard, there is always a point where too many opponents means we would die My hope is to keep you mobile, but still effective in combat.
He looks up at the stairs leading to the sleeping rooms.
“This doesn’t even include your storm mage or cat cleric. Those add a lot of options as well and just your little group is enough I think.”
Te’Teh’s makes a dismissing motion with her left hand. “She is in no danger now. Very few people know who she is, and most of them wouldn’t recognize her out of context. She is just part of an adventuring company who pays dues to the Adventurer’s guild just like everyone else. She is totally safe.”
Key’s look softens a bit. “No offense taken, I just had realized that you had never seen me fight. I assure you its like nothing you’ve ever seen.” Her smile goes soft and lazy for a moment before she looks to Te’ Teh.
“No one knows who I am for now. But I suspect that given a bit of time for gossip to travel that will change. The horse tribe in the desert knew who I was without my telling them.”
Anglerond smiles. “I have heard about the eastern styles of fighting. I never went over when we did the Reclaiming Crusade, I was one of a few kept back to watch over the forest. I would love to see it, maybe spar and learn from you. Is it something like the drow dancing style? That is the closest I have come.”
Te’Teh’s sighs“Am I the only person who thought it was weird they knew who you were? It wasn’t like images of you were passed out ahead of us.”
Anglerond’s eyes glint mischievously. “I am glad you use weapons, and I would like to say my experience gives me more patience. You ever spar with Rabbit and her dancing? I am sure you would be surprised. They have a full weaponless fighting system.i would love to watch that.”
She sets her quill down and turns her back to the table and leans into it. Now fully engaged in the conversation. “I haven’t. It would be interesting to test my skills against her. I can fight weaponless as well. I just prefer to use my blades. Im pretty good with a bow too. Your not interested in a sparring match? Im pretty sure I could take you.”
She squints and purses her lips, appraising the man in front of her a little more frankly than the situation would warrant.
Anglerond’s eyes flare in amusement and surprise. Although his cheeks flare out a bit red. “I would love to spar with you, and maybe I will let you take me or maybe paddle you. Either way it would be an entertaining sparring match.”
His jovial smile bright and sunny.
Te’Teh’s smile Freezes in surprise at Anglerond mentioning paddling. She looks down, face reddening.
Key chuckles. “Im faster than I look. Are you really sure that a bet you want to lay?” She raises an eyebrow, a smug smile on her face. She looks over to Te’Teh.
“Don’t go all embarrassed on my now. That was pretty tame by comparison to some of the things I’ve heard you say.” She elbows the girl playfully.
Te’Teh’s shrugs, the redness disappearing. “Scruffy older men are a thing for me, if you toss in paddling… ya that causes reactions.”
Anglerond gives both ladies a smile. His wink to keyleth full of mirth and interest. With that he says nothing, he just watches.
Key chuckles. “I had no idea you had a type.” Her eyes flick up to Anglerond.
“But unfortunately for you I don’t like to share.” She reaches out and throws an arm around the tiefling.
“If your willing to wait, there will be a barracks full of elven rangers though. I suspect when the time comes for Anglerond to fill it, it will be full of his friends.”
Anglerond’’s smile gets slightly bigger at the sharing comment, a pleased look in his eyes from key’s words. “you are a beautiful girl, but you are more than I am comfortable with and way too young. Don’t worry, when your queen needs rangers my men and women will come. They will love a beautiful and curvy tiefling like yourself.
i personally like fully adult women, and only a single one in my life at a time. I am old and don’t have the energy or capacity to share..”
He does hesitate, “Not to intrude, but are you and Jack a thing?”
Te’Teh’s Nudges Key and looks over and Anglerond. “Jack and I have a thing, we just haven’t determined what that thing is yet.
Key looks uncomfortable for a moment when referred to as ‘your queen’ but winks at the man in front of her before turning to the tiefling. She lifts both eyebrows at Te’Teh when she speaks.
“Maybe thats a discussion that needs to be had sooner rather than later?” She squeezes her shoulder then lets go.
Te’Teh smiles at Key “That conversation needs to be started by Jack. I have done it all myself so far, pretty much had to take his penis and put it in me. If he wants to confirm things or talk about more that is up to him. Until then I will just be me.
She smiles at Key a second time, indicating she isn’t upset with Jack, just waiting for his response.
Anglerond raises an eyebrow at Te’teh In a supportive manner. While he listens to the two ladies he leans against Key, playfully shoves her slender hip with is muscled waist.
“well then, Jack is missing out. But he seems smart and he will figure it out at some point.”
Key flexes all the muscles in her body preventing any movement. She rolls her eyes and shakes her head in a playful manner before responding to Te’Teh.
“He’s young. I suppose at this point its up to how you really feel. Is this just playing around or are there a few more emotions involved for you? If the later is true, I wouldn’t waist any time. Life is short.”
Te’Teh chuckles at the waist war going on in front of her. “There are rumblings, but I am not a love lorn drow. I am not really a one person lady. Now I can be serious about Jack, that is there. But I have a hard time resisting impulses.
A friend said I have ‘Poor impulse control’. It means most relationships implode. I might want to stay with someone but my crotch gets me in trouble.”
Anglerond steps back from Key with a look of surprise and then admiration at Key’s resistance. Then a slightly more intrigued look overcomes him. While still listening to Te’Teh politely his gaze just watches Key intently.
“Key is right, the world changes quickly. When you are ready you should grab what interests you and see where things fall..”
The smug smile on Key’s face only gets larger with her victory. She shoots Anglerond a look that said quite clearly ‘told you’. She looks back to Te’Teh. “You still may want to have some sort of conversation so that there are no misunderstandings. It will save both of you later.
Te’Teh has a pensive look on her face. “Maybe, I would rather Jack approach me, it has been 100% propelled by me so far and I would like some sign he likes me more than a bed warmer. But I will consider what you say.”
Anglerond notices the smug look, and with not a break in his smile seems to notice something on Key’s papers. He leans over her, incredibly close, close enough she can feel his very warm body heat. However his body doesn’t touch her at all. He spends a few moments looking at the papers and making approving grunts.
“I understand where you are coming from. Im just adding my two bits. Feel free to disregard my advice. Its not like my track record has been stellar.”
She shifts her focus to the man in her personal space. She takes him in for a moment before speaking with more than a bit of humor filled disapproval.
“Did I do okay? Maybe you should do this for me. Im obviously lacking a man to do all the important things for me.” She lifts a hand slowly, then flicks his ear. She gives him a level look owning the space she is in. A smile curls up the corners of her mouth.
Anglerond stays still as Key watches him, and the surprise is evident when she flicks his ear. As he backs up, holding his ear in a confused manner but his eyes even more intensely interested in the monk girl.
Still holding his ear he erupts into a booming laughter, tears welling up in his eyes as he takes a few moments to regain his composure , all the while chuckling.
“My dear, unless you want a fortified fire base awaiting an assault I am not a person who can make any designs. All I can do is tell you some
specific rooms/buildings we might need. You are far superior to me in many many ways, and designing a home is absolutely one of them. I did not mean to imply otherwise.”
Te’Teh freezes and remains quiet as the scene between two elves unfold. She seems unsure if they are going to laugh, fight or fuck.
She elbows Anglerond, still smiling. “Damn straight I am.” Her expression sobers just a bit.
“But seriously, please, if there is anything you can suggest Im all ears. I can make educated guesses but this is actually the first time Ive done this. I also want it to be a place where we are all comfortable living.”
She motions toward the parchment in invitation.
Anglerond sits down, moving Te’Teh’s drink out of the way. Still chuckling he moves papers around.
“I mean it when I say I suck at designing. I also can’t repair buildings, they usually take the hammer away from me. However, let’s write down a list..”
Te’Teh smiles at the two others in front of her, she sits down and starts to drink.
Key takes the chair next to Anglerond. “I really just want to make sure that what Im doing isn’t going to leave a gaping whoke in our defenses.” She pulls the design over so she can show him what she’s done so far.
“The land is on a jetty. There is a lighthouse near the cliff. Main house will be against the cliff with a wall and gate at the opposite boundary here.” She points to illustrate.
“Barracks and stables closest to the main gate. Shall I go on?”
Key takes a deep breath and lets it out. “Thanks for being willing to take on all this. I know it can’t be easy for you.”
Anglerond looks up at Keyleth unsure which part she is referring, when a sadness deep in his eyes flashes out, and for a few moments he appears as a warrior in the fall of his life, with many bad decisions behind him.
“I worry about him a lot. He is young, he was my charge. It is my duty to train him, guide him, and I completely failed him on that part. That has impacted you, and caused this pain on you. I cannot express how sorry I am for that failure.”
Almost as soon as it was there, Anglerond puts the mask back on and his jovial demeanor returns. “However a tankard of ale, two very pretty ladies sitting with me, while I am well fed and warm means life is good.”
Te’Teh watches Anglerond and Keyleth. When his smile returns she scoots next to him on the other side from Keyleth, leans against him playfully.
“I would prefer to drink with my friends, then do just about anything else. I am always willing to be a pretty lady sitting here.”
All the light drains from Keys face. She places a hand on his and looks him in the eye. “I don’t blame the teacher for the students failings. The Old Arthurian is in there somewhere. He’s just lost right now. Besides, I think a bit of that blame should land squarely on my shoulders as well. There isn’t much we can do about any of it. So, another worry for another day.”
She shakes her head as if exiting a trance. She orders more drinks for her friends. “Have you had a chance to see much of the city yet?”
Anglerond shakes his head emphatically. “No. absolutely not. You did nothing wrong. You volunteered to help a friend. You could do nothing to change him. What is inside him was set in stone long before you ever met him.
You are the victim not the person responsible, don’t ever think otherwise. You are going to rule the biggest nation in the realms, this is a good time to learn that lesson. You can’t take personal responsibility for everything.”
His smile returns, a truly happy look as he looks into Key’s eyes. A large smirk grows in his face. “I haven’t seen the city recently, but when I was younger I frequented a lot of the places of ill-repute.”
